MAGNIFICENT 7 ICE SCULPTING COMPETITION PRESENTED BY CAPITAL ONE BANK

MAGNIFICENT 7 ICE SCULPTING COMPETITION
PRESENTED BY CAPITAL ONE BANK

Ice sculpting event featuring ice artists from around the country

Houstonians of all ages were fascinated with last year’s Magnificent Seven All Out Ice Sculpting Competition which featured acclaimed ice artists from around the country using chainsaws and blow torches to transform ice into masterpieces.
Seven of the best ice sculptors in the world will return to Discovery Green on Saturday, January 9, 2010 to battle for bragging rights and the grand prize. Some of the master ice sculptors will include: Buddy Rasmussen of the Team Texas Chainsaw Massacre who was recently profiled on The Learning Channel’s (TLC) special, Chainsaw Ice Sculptors; Dan “Hollywood” Rebholz who is one of five certified “Master Carvers” in the USA. He’s coming for the title and possibly blood. Last year he was so close, but not close enough; Benjamin Rand, ranked second in the USA and is serious about this art form. He bows his head in focus and in a matter of hours creates an ice sculpture that defies the laws of gravity; Julian Lee a new comer this year from Calgary, Canada. He is a great sculptor and will have to condition himself to adapt to the coastal weather; and The Reverend Butter, ranked third in the USA. He will not only be hosting the event, but will compete this year. Houston’s own is going to show the others how things are done in the south. Butter was recently featured with Buddy on The Learning Channel’s (TLC) special, Chainsaw Ice Sculptors.

This year’s event will host a special panel of guest judges: Houston’s original ice sculptor and Reverend Butter’s mentor, Walter Odermatt; renowned sculptor David Addickes from SculptrWorx Studio; and Alice Connelly, a seasoned veteran in the ice business who has judged thousands of ice sculptures.
There will be snow, chainsaws, guitars and rock stars from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Don’t miss out on the grand finale including a live performance with The Reverend Butter and Downfall 2012 on the Anheuser-Busch stage.
